Koshi Nage or the hip throw uses the movement
of the waist and hips as uke is being lifted from the
ground. This technique manifests itself in many
variations, depending on the type of attack. Nage brings
his side into contact with uke's lower

abdomen and using
his own hips as a fulcrum, projects uke over his own body
and onto the mat. This is achieved not through muscular
force, but by uke's momentum as deployed by nage. Uke
will be turned upside down in flight and land on his
back.
