Shomen Irimi Nage is known as the '20-year technique'. It is also my favourite technique, a graceful and harmonious counter against almost any type of attack. It comprises the central nucleus of the aikido technical repertoire and the basis for the development of numerous strategies of defense.

Nage's initial motion of evasion places him in a central pivoting position. From here, he parries uke's attacking hand while simultaneously spinning him around, nage's other hand guiding uke's neck. This spinning motion is then reversed as nage's arm brings uke down in the opposite direction, flowing
in an arc.
