The Internet is an inherently interactive platform. Beautiful design alone just isn’t going to cut it anymore. To be successful, a website needs to be highly functional, with the end user’s interest in mind. Web surfers have the attention span of a fruit fly. Don’t make them have to figure out how to find their way around your site. If you do, they will leave.
The key to achieving web usability is by having a graphical user interface that is simple yet elegant. Why is elegance important? Because it matters how your website looks. If a website is highly functional but ugly, visitors might not click beyond the home page. Unless you are Google (whose value is obvious), your website should look good. Otherwise, your business will risk losing visitors.
